BIO
With over 30 years' experience, Matt Villa's passion and
commitment to the film making process has provided him the opportunity to collaborate on some of the finest Australian and international film productions.
In 2013, Matt won both the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Award and the Film Critics Circle of Australia (FCCA) Award for Best Editing for his work on Baz Luhrmann’s big screen adaptation of the classic The Great Gatsby.
In 2014, he received dual AACTA Award and FCCA Award nominations for his work on both The Water Diviner and the sci-fi thriller Predestination, winning both awards for the latter.
In 2023, he received BAFTA and Oscar nominations for his work on the biopic Elvis.
Additional film credits include Daybreakers, Winchester, Peter Rabbit 2, Eden, Christy and the animated features The Lego Batman Movie and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole.
Matt is currently working on the science fiction drama Starman, starring Brendan Fraser and Jeff Daniels
